【博士獎學金 】現時香港的大學並沒有開辦脊醫課程，《香港執業脊醫協會》為了培育下一代脊科醫生，於2015年和多間世界頂尖的脊骨神經醫學院成立獎學金，津貼香港學生出國深造，到美國生命大學（Life University)修讀博士課程，因生命大學博士學位已獲香港脊醫管理局認可，故博士生回港後只需向當局申請為註冊脊醫。這批是眾多香港在美國進修博士生的學生和今年的畢業生。

【脊醫獎學金 】香港醫生和醫護人員人手長期嚴重不足，本港一直欠缺脊醫醫學課程，導致脊醫人手長期嚴重不足。《香港執業脊醫協會》的獎學金計劃幫助許助本港大學出國修讀脊科醫學院博士，今年美國畢業的Isabel Chow是其中一員。以下是Dr Chow的畢業分享：

It is as if second-nature for public health graduates to advocate primary care/preventive care; hence, to place emphasis on maintaining one’s overall health and well-being BEFORE anything starts going downhill health-wise.
The goal is not to start quitting soda AFTER developing diabetes. Not to quit smoking and start taking care of yourself AFTER being diagnosed with lung cancer.

When I first discovered what chiropractic was about, it absolutely amazed me that not only is it a means of care capable of managing conditions and physical symptoms, it literally hinders degeneration of different body systems and improves our neurophysiological functions!

As a CDAHK scholarship recipient and now a chiropractor, I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Eric Chu and Dr. Kevin Huang for the thrilling opportunity to serve alongside their multidisciplinary team in HK in the near future, as well as their continuous mentorship and support!

Chiropractic case on Dropped head syndrome (DHS): inability to maintain the head in an upright posture. It has been associated with a wide spectrum of myopathies and neurological conditions. Isolated neck extensor myopathy (INEM) is one of many potential causes of DHS. This is a case report of a 72-year-old man who presented with degenerative cervical spondylosis and DHS for 2 years. He had previously failed to achieve a positive outcome to medication, cervical collar and exercise rehabilitation. However, he was able to regain his voluntary head control after a 4-month chiropractic program. It is believed that INEM is caused by isolated myopathic changes from chronic injury and overloading of the cervical muscles. Cervical spondylosis has been attributed as the cause of DHS secondary to denervation of the cervical extensors. While INEM associated with degenerative spondylosis is not medically treatable, manipulative therapies may be adopted before considering surgical intervention.
