Costs and cost-effectiveness of chiropractic care
Few health treatments available today are as safe and reliable as chiropractic treatments. And few health professions have conducted as extensive and in-depth research as chiropractic.
To date, six global chiropractic reviews have been conducted by governments in the past 25 years (including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden), which generally agreed that modern chiropractic care is not only safe, effective and cost-effective, but also advocated funding for chiropractic services.
In addition to the comprehensive study conducted by the Government, the industry has also conducted a number of clinical studies (including randomized controlled trials) to analyze the suitability, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of chiropractic treatment (mainly for back pain).

In 1990, a randomized controlled trial study by the British Medical Research Council was published, comparing the mechanical principles of chiropractic and hospital outpatient treatment for low back pain. The researchers pointed out that chiropractic treatment is more valuable and more effective than the methods used in hospital outpatient clinics. They also brought up the concept of including chiropractic in hospital departments and even the national health system. (BMJ, Vol 300, pp.1431-37)
A subsequent study was published in the British Medical Journal in 1995. In addition to publishing the entire study results, it also made the following conclusions: "The three-year study confirms the findings listed in the earlier report on the effectiveness of chiropractors and hospital therapists in treating low back pain over the years. Chiropractic treatment is more effective and more satisfactory than the methods used in hospital outpatient clinics." (BMJ, Vol 311, pp. 349-51)

Scholarship Program
Those who are interested in becoming a chiropractor may wish to apply for the Chiropractic Scholarship Scheme organized by the Hong Kong Association of Practitioners of Chiropractic. DSE candidates, secondary school students, university graduates, parents and working professionals are all welcome. In 2015, we established scholarships with many of the world's top chiropractic schools to subsidize Hong Kong students to study abroad.
The scholarship program is provided to students studying undergraduate and doctoral programs in chiropractic at Life University College of Chiropractic (Life University; www.life.edu) in the United States. The scholarship includes 50% of the tuition fees (the term is determined by the school). Since the doctoral degree of Life University has been recognized by the Hong Kong Chiropractic Council, doctoral students only need to apply to the authority to register as chiropractors after returning to Hong Kong.
