Dear Secretary for Health and Welfare/Director of Health.
On behalf of the Chiropractors' Association of Hong Kong (CDAHK), I would like to respond to the section on medical and health policy in your Chief Executive's Policy Address 2023. We firmly believe that the chiropractic profession has an important role to play in Hong Kong's medical and health policy and would like to respond to the following related issues:
Firstly, on the issue of medical innovation and technology, the Hong Kong Chiropractors' Association is working hard to promote the development of chiropractic in China. We are honored to receive the highest honor from the World Federation of Chiropractic this year, which makes us even more determined to provide patients with “good medicine for Hong Kong and research and development for the benefit of the people”. We will continue our efforts to assist Hong Kong to become an authoritative international organization for rehabilitation spinal medicines and actively participate in the assessment and registration of rehabilitation medicines.
Secondly, in respect of cross-boundary medical collaboration, we recognize the growing importance of cross-boundary medical collaboration in the light of the development of the Greater Bay Area and the increase in population mobility. We will actively participate in and promote the role of chiropractors in this regard.
In addition, we will also enhance manpower training and exchanges. We plan to strengthen training and exchange of chiropractic personnel with the Mainland and regions outside the Greater Bay Area to enhance our professionalism and bring new perspectives to the chiropractic profession in Hong Kong.
Finally, we recognize the need to increase the supply of healthcare manpower. We believe that chiropractors can play an important role in alleviating the imbalance between supply and demand in the public sector. Therefore, we will continue to push for amendments to the Chiropractors Registration Ordinance and actively train local chiropractors. We hope that more chiropractors will join the HA and the Department of Health (DH) to address the problem of manpower shortage in public hospitals.
We will continue to work hard to ensure that the chiropractic profession is well recognized and utilized in Hong Kong's healthcare system, and we are committed to providing the best chiropractic services to the people of Hong Kong.
Thank you for your interest and support.
