Chiropractors' Efforts to Alleviate the Unequal Demand and Supply of Public Healthcare Services
The Chiropractors' Association of Hong Kong (CDAHK) has recently expressed its concern over the chronic undersupply of public healthcare services, with waiting times for some specialties measured in years. We believe that doctors of chiropractic (chiropractors) can provide an effective solution to this problem.
According to the latest figures, from October last year to September this year, the waiting time for stabilized new cases in the orthopaedic and ear, nose and throat specialties has continued to rise, reaching over 100 weeks. Among them, the waiting time for orthopaedics in Hong Kong West, Kowloon Central, Kowloon West and New Territories East has even risen linearly.
To address this problem, the Hong Kong Chiropractors' Association calls on the Government and the public to recognize and utilize the services of chiropractors more. Chiropractors are an important part of the healthcare system. They specialize in problems of the nervous, muscular and skeletal systems and are capable of performing spinal examinations, diagnosis and treatment. Their competence and services can relieve the pressure on specialist outpatient clinics and reduce waiting time for patients.
We believe that chiropractors' services can be part of the solution. Better integration of chiropractors into the healthcare system could greatly relieve the pressure on specialist outpatient clinics and allow more patients to receive the necessary medical services in a timely manner.
