The Chiropractors Council was established in 1993 under the Chiropractors Registration Ordinance (Chapter 428 of the Laws of Hong Kong). With the implementation of the Chiropractors Registration (Fees) Regulations and the Chiropractors (Registration and Disciplinary Procedure) Rules (Subsidiary Legislation A and B to Chapter 428 of the Laws of Hong Kong), the chiropractor profession began to be registered on 1 September 2001. The relevant provisions of the Ordinance prohibiting unregistered persons from practicing the chiropractic profession came into effect on 13 February 2003.

The functions of the Chiropractic Council are:

(i) To establish and maintain a register of registered chiropractors

(ii) To formulate and review the eligibility criteria for registration as a registered chiropractor and related registration matters

(iii) To advise the Government on registration matters

(iv) To examine and verify the qualifications of persons applying to be registered as registered chiropractors

(v) receive, review, accept or reject applications for registration as a chiropractor or for renewal of registration

(vi) Handling disciplinary offences

(vii) Keeping proper records of the Board’s proceedings

(viii) perform other functions as prescribed by the Chiropractors Registration Ordinance
